1tbsp is an indie-house project from Australian GRAMMY Award Nominated artist Maxwell Byrne, who is more commonly known for his work as Golden Vessel.
Back in 2019 Maxwell began exploring elements of house music while researching songs for his DJ performances at "Sumoclic Nights"; a monthly event that he was hosting at a Brisbane venue. This eventually led to him creating some of his own tracks to use in those sets, and after a while he found he had a solid collection of songs that he really wanted to share with the world.
With the direction of this new music being so different from the usual Golden Vessel sound, Maxwell decided to create a whole new project, giving life to 1tbsp.
In 2021 he gave us his debut four-track ep titled "kanashī" which was released via Sumoclic; a label owned & operated by Maxwell and his friend Connor Grant (aka Akurei). That ep was met with much praise and attention from fans and music curators around the world and has since collected over 2.2 million streams on Spotify alone.
Feeling excited and inspired by the reception to that ep, Maxwell continued to create more music for this fun new project. Later that year he released two double-singles - "Dhollandia // Circles" & "Stay Up // Rest" - and also started expanding his DJ performances into playing festivals and events, while also supporting the likes of Young Franco, BAYNK and daste. on their Australian tours.
Throughout 2022 Maxwell gave us a collection of new 1tbsp singles which saw him collaborating with the likes of Nick Ward, Allan McConnell (of Close Counters), Squidgenini and Sampology, resulting in a captivating four-track ep titled "Joan" which was released in December.
Kicking off 2023 in fine-form, Maxwell gave us three exceptional new 1tbsp singles - “Pioneer Digital Plastic Sound”, “No Nein (feat. Mietze Conte)” and “Four Tet Is My Godmother” - which also came with news of a whole new ep coming our way very soon.
That ep is titled “It's Very Loud” and was released on March 16th via his own label Sumoclic. The ep features the above mentioned singles alongside one other previously unheard gem and EP title-track, ‘It's Very Loud’, which was co-written with his friend Squidgenini.
Maxwell showed no signs of slowing down any time soon. On August 17th, he gave us the project’s debut album “Mosquito Love” which is an invigorating 8-track collection of his infectious indie-dance/house sound & style. That album has helped forged 1tbsp’s place in the global music scene, dusting off the “side-project” tagline and now sitting comfortably alongside Golden Vessel as a second main project for Maxwell Byrne.
On the home touring front, 1tbsp has just finished up a nine-date Australian tour which included a spot on Groovin’ The Moo festival on the Sunshine Coast as well as his own Sold Out ep launch party in Brisbane called “It’s Very Loud”. He was a showcasing artist at BIGSOUND in early September, he’s playing the Listen Out touring festival that is taking place in Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne & Sydney, and he’s also been selected to showcase at the first ever SXSW Sydney this October.
Following those Australian shows, Byrne then embarked on a seven-date North American tour playing to packed rooms in cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Toronto and Montreal, and he’s already planning a return in 2024, affirming that the vibrant journey of 1tbsp continues with unabated momentum.
Closing out 2023 and rolling into 2024, 1tbsp teamed up with Australian artist/producer Jai Piccone (also know for his role in Australian band Tora) for a three-track ep titled "Shine Love In", which was clearly just a warm-up for what Maxwell had in-store for us this year as he soon after released a brand-new 1tbsp single called ‘Starchitect’ and thus began the anticipation build for “Megacity1000”...
